- The World-Read-Aloud-Day, a global event celebrated in over 170 countries across the globe was commemorated at the National Library headquarters and it's branches across the federation.
Speaking at the event in the headquarters, the National Librarian/CEO, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi stated that though National Library renders social services and as such does not generate resources, it is necessary to key into the global celebration which also aligns with one of the organization's mandates of promoting readership. "Though we may not afford to read beyond our environment, we have our own community, the National Library Staff to read to ourselves, whereas our state branches will read to the various communities where they operate". She reiterated that Librarians are Readers and should always take the lead. There is need to socialize, and Read-Aloud is a good forum for that.
Staff members, including Ms Amaka Ojielo, Director ISPD, Mrs. Olabimpe Olani, Acting Director of Public Services Department and Orvell Diô, Head of Public Relations joined the National Librarian to read from different books, to the audience.
In her vote of thanks, Mrs. Olani the Ag. Director of the Public Services Department appreciated the National Librarian/CEO for providing such an environment for staff to gather and socialize through reading. She emphasized that there are many good and rich cultural backgrounds which should be transferred to younger generations. She therefore encouraged all to do so through reading.
Similarly, the event was concelebrated across the National Library Branches where our local organizers selected Readers who read in their various communities to both adults and children.
Read Aloud Day is celebrated annually on the 7th of February.
